If you are anything like me, you probably read quite a few science and skeptic blogs. You might even be on twitter (Follow me here!) and follow all the awesome skeptics out there on the web, working hard to debunk pseudoscience and woo. While I normally love staying up-to-date on the latest with the skeptic world, it’s been a little rough this past weekend since many of my skeptic friends were at The Amazing Meeting 7 (TAM7) in Las Vegas. I went to TAM6 last year and it was incredible. The speakers were fantastic, the workshops were relevant – there were even skeptic-friendly musicians! Not mention the fact that I got to meet a number of high-profile skeptics like Adam Savage, Penn & Teller and of course, The Amazing (James) Randi! I left TAM feeling excited and energized and really longed for a local skeptic community. Shortly thereafter, I got more involved and started the Pittsburgh chapter of Drinking Skeptically.
This year finances kept me from attending TAM and I was just plain jealous reading all the updates. But I quickly remembered that I still have my awesome local community of skeptics right here in Pittsburgh! This Friday’s Drinking Skeptically couldn’t come at a better time. While I can’t promise anyone famous, I can promise you excellent conversation with smart, freethinking folks who love to have fun. Whether you drink Yuengling, a rum and Coke or just plain water, you should be there this Friday. I’ll be the one drinking the Buzzed Aldrin.
