The Church of England is going to apologize to Charles Darwin.
It wants to distance itself from fundamentalist Christians, who believe in the Biblical account of the creation of the world in seven days.
Wow, the Church of England must be the only rational church in the world.

It seems quite bizarre for the church of England to address a materialist in a post-mortem state! Wrap your heads around that one, heh? It seems that the church has become post-mortem. Isn’t this another example of the modernist denial of Christianity even within the church?

I don’t know why Christians can’t just stay away from evolution. Within any congregation you’re going to have some people who reject “Darwinism” outright, some people who accept it as fact and just compartmentalize it from their faith, and some people who think evolution was god’s tool for creation.
There really isn’t any valid position where evolution and biblical teaching can co-exist. The idea of god using evolution as a tool is ridiculous. One of the key principles of evolution is that there is no direction, end point, or ultimate goal. The concept of randomness is in directly conflict with everything in the Bible.
The Bible requires that the world be neat, ordered, and planned, and punishes those who go against god’s will. Evolution requires the world to random, constantly changing, and rewards variation. God works in mysterious complex ways to instantaneously create life forms simpler than himself. Evolution works in simple ways for billions of years to create beings more complex than the ones who came before them.

That’s the paradox of the modern church: struggling to seem reasonable while still refusing to give up their book.
And the Church of England hasn’t had a particularly good track record of ending up on the reasonable side of the debate…
